Calligraphy

Before the printing press, medieval and Renaissance books were painstakingly written by hand. Scribes used an incredible array of fancy scripts to create gorgeous works of art out of words alone. Especially luxurious books would include elaborate illustrations, called “illuminations,” to complement the text.

Using historical calligraphy styles spanning from the early Celtic tradition to the late Italian Renaissance, Nancy creates a wide array of fine art, maps, greeting cards, and jewelry to bring medieval beauty into our lives. Her original paintings often use genuine parchment---made from animal skins, in the traditional manner---and 23K gold leaf gilding, the same materials used throughout history and seen today only in museums.

Inspiration for her words comes from Shakespeare, fantasy and science fiction authors, the Bible, and many other sources, and all her painting styles are firmly rooted in historical traditions.
